Tether, a well-known player in the cryptocurrency market, has introduced a groundbreaking artificial intelligence development kit (SDK) that places a strong emphasis on user privacy. Paolo Ardoino, the CEO of Tether, presented this exciting innovation on October 26 at the Plan ₿ event in Lugano, Switzerland. Named “Local AI,” this kit enables code to be executed on a wide range of devices, from affordable smartphones to high-end smartphones, laptops, and even powerful systems equipped with H100 processors. Additionally, this technology can be applied to various devices such as smart refrigerators and automotive entertainment systems.
Flexible and Modular Structure
Tether’s Local AI SDK stands out as a technology designed to protect users’ privacy rights. Supported by peer-to-peer (P2P) data structures, the SDK securely shares weight data and fine-tuning information for AI models across devices.
One of the main advantages of this modular structure, which is compatible with different models like Marian and Llama, is its ability to work seamlessly across various devices and operate locally. Tether has also announced that the SDK will be released as an open-source project after undergoing comprehensive testing.
According to Ardoino, the kit enables individuals to carry out operations entirely on their devices without sharing personal data with third parties. As an example, a fully local and privacy-focused translation app was demonstrated during the presentation.
Approach Centered on Privacy
Tether’s innovation with Local AI aims to meet the increasing demand for privacy in the cryptocurrency world. Ardoino emphasized that the foundations of Local AI were built upon the open-source project “holepunchto/bare,” which plays a crucial role in the SDK’s structure. This statement highlights Tether’s commitment to both innovation and privacy.
The Local AI technology from Tether is expected to attract users who prioritize privacy. The eventual release of the kit as an open-source project will make this technology accessible to a wider audience, including developers, and serve as an invitation to communities interested in AI and privacy-focused technologies.
