Vitalik Buterin, one of the co-founders of Ethereum, has responded to criticisms regarding the user experience of Layer 2. Critics argue that the current state of Layer 2 should be more unified and simplified. However, Buterin believes that developers should focus on building for the future and not feel obligated to defend existing limitations.
Building Ethereum’s Future
Camila Russo, founder of the DeFi media platform The Defiant, criticized Buterin, stating that certain aspects of the Layer 2 user experience on Ethereum are “painful” and “difficult to use” for newcomers. In response, Buterin explained the current situation and emphasized the importance of shaping the future.
Buterin believes that seamless interaction between Layer 2 solutions can be achieved through technical innovations and community coordination. The goal is to eliminate the differences between the user experience on Ethereum’s Layer 1 and Layer 2. Buterin focuses on integrating standardized network addresses, payment requests, and wallet functionalities.
Ethereum’s “Surge” Strategy
In his blog post titled “The Surge,” Buterin outlined a scaling strategy that combines sharding and Layer 2 protocols. This strategy aims to maintain the resilience and decentralization of Ethereum while targeting a processing capacity of 100,000 transactions per second. Buterin also mentioned that improvements to the gas fee structure would enhance the transaction speed of ETH.
Buterin continuously shares updates to shape the future of Ethereum. Under the “The Surge” roadmap, he introduces important initiatives such as EVM optimization and security enhancements. These efforts are expected to make the Ethereum ecosystem more user-friendly and integrated.
Russo emphasizes that existing issues within the Ethereum ecosystem should not be overlooked and that cross-ecosystem coordination needs improvement. This will result in a smoother and more accessible user experience.
Addressing the chaos in Layer 2 will enhance the integrity of the ecosystem and reduce reliance on centralized components. Buterin’s vision aims to provide a consistent experience across all layers of Ethereum, making it more widely adopted by a larger audience. Various innovative steps, including embedded bridging strategies developed by Uniswap, will further advance existing structures.
